Chapter 15
Sri Sri: Your evolution is very fast when you are a parent. You are very keen and on your toes all the time like the security guard of a VIP. You are only worried about external things. When you are calm and serene, the children catch on to that. Sometimes children also talk like fifty-year olds. They are like parrots. A couple should not quarrel or do anything that is not good before their children. A sense of giving should be developed in them. They should be endowed with the seed of spirituality.
Sri Sri: When you ride a horse, you must move with it. You have to rock with its motion otherwise your back will hurt. It is the same with kids. Parents have to rock and swing with them–know them and gently guide them. Sometimes you need to tighten the reins and sometimes you must loosen them. Sometimes you need to put your foot down and, at other times, give them freedom.
Sri Sri: Love is always there. You can’t help but love your children. What you need to do is to educate them in human values and make them kind and strong. Some children are kind but they can be easily hurt. They get offended easily and become miserable. And some are very strong but they are not kind. It is a challenge to make your children strong as well as kind. Sometimes you have to scold them. You should not bring them up in a goody-goody way all the time. If they are used to your getting angry with them, then they will not get upset if someone else gets angry at them in the future. Otherwise, they may become very fragile, delicate and vulnerable. So, sometimes you have to scold them and put them on the right path.
Sri Sri: Children should be taught to make one new friend each day. They should not be allowed to play violent video games. Then, there is ‘ART Excel’–All Round Training in Excellence. Children really enjoy this program as they learn the essential points through games. In Europe it is known as NAP–Non-Aggression Program. After doing this program, even very aggressive children become happy and friendly. We conduct a program called “Know Your Child” for parents. Life is a gift to you; a very charming gift. But you seldom open it. It’s all about opening yourselves, being open. Life is gift-wrapped in golden paper which is waiting for each one of you to unwrap it. You need to be in an informal atmosphere to know yourself and acquire deep wisdom. Formal atmosphere is not conducive for knowledge.
Most of the time, you do not actually mean the pleasantries that you exchange with people. Most of your pleasantries and conversation are on a superficial level; very nearly like an air hostess telling you to have a nice day after a flight! If you are told something similar by your grandmother, it carries energy, vibrations, and presence. When you relate to everybody on a very superficial level all the time then life becomes dry and the world dull.
